SKILLS TRAINING

Overview

Starting late fall we are starting our joint player training for the club held at the Flame Fastpitch hitting facility.  This offering is exclusive for current Flame Fastpitch athletes only.

We will have several different time offerings for each specific training type to allow for differing family schedules, but it is our hope that each player only need to come in one night each week to get their hitting and fielding training done for the week.  Each session will have a limited participant count to keep an efficient player/coach ratio to maximize the number of reps players will get.

Skills Training Goals

Our hope is that players will take advantage of as much extra training as they can to quickly develop the skills and knowledge needed to become better players.  The plan is give all players an opportunity to train with the different coaches from within the organization and get position specific instruction along side players from different teams across the club.

Certain training sessions will be listed for Level 1 or Level 2 training groups.  Instructors for each session will have final say on player placement in a Level 1 or Level 2 group.

Level 1
Players still working on skill fundamentals and developing proper mechanics for that activity.
Level 2
Players should be solid on fundamentals and mechanics with the desire to learn advanced techniques for that position or activity.

Speed/Agility/Core Training

These training sessions will have a $15 charge/night and will be booked as a 4 week course for $60 per player.  The training will be run by ex-UW softball standout Kimi Pohlman with the fees going to pay her for her time to run these training groups for our club.

Speed/Agility/Core training sessions will have a minimum of 12 athletes and max out at 15 per session.

Players should be prepared for a highly strenuous workout which will test their ability to focus on given instructions and completing the drills as described.   It is hard work and players must be ready to be pushed to exhaustion to get the most from this training.

These sessions will be 60 minutes and are offered on Wednesday evenings with 3 different options:

  • 6pm – 7pm
  • 7pm – 8pm
  • 8pm – 9pm

To reserve your spot please email Marty (FlameDirector@live.com) and let him know which time slot you are interested in.

Offensive Skills Training

These sessions will break out into Level 1 Hitting, Level 2 Hitting, Slapping, and Base Running.  Several sessions will be spread out over the course of the week with a variety of coaches from across the org mixing in to give as many options a possible.

Defensive Skills Training

Sessions for Fielding & Throwing for both Infielders and Outfielders will be available at both Level 1 and Level 2.  Catcher training is also available at both levels options as well.

Expect to bring high energy and learn drills and techniques on a variety of topics week to week for each session type.

Pitcher Training

Due to the highly specialized nature and different styles of pitching taught by the various pitching instructors in the area we will not offer pitching instruction during these weekly skills sessions.

We will offer open pitching sessions for pitchers wanting to come in to throw (bring your own catcher), and additionally, we’ll have opportunities for a couple of pitchers to come throw during the catchers’ instruction sessions appropriate for their skill level.
